What is Bureau of Energy Efficiency License?

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency is an agency of the Government of India, under the Ministry of Power created in March 2002 under the provisions of the nation’s 2001 Energy Conservation Act. The agency’s function is to develop programs that will increase the conservation and efficient use of energy in India.

The government has proposed to make it mandatory for certain appliances in India to have ratings by the BEE starting in January 2010. The mission of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency is to “institutionalize” energy efficiency services, enable delivery mechanisms in the country and provide leadership to energy efficiency in all sectors of the country. The primary objective would be to reduce energy intensity in the economy.

Why this License is Required?

BEE establishes the standards and star rating for different appliances. The star ratings define the standard of energy efficiency where it helps the people an informed choice of energy performance and cost. For certification, the manufactured products will be subjected to the tests as designed by BEE.

Document Required for Bureau of Energy Efficiency License

A) General Guidelines:

  • Each and every document submitted to BEE (Either in Hard copy or Uploaded Online) must bear the signature and stamp of the authorized signatory in the original.
  • All the Documents must be submitted in the given sequence (as mentioned in’ B’) and kept in the File in a proper way.
  • Documents without proper filing or loose or clipped or only stapled will not be accepted.
  • Deviation from the process would be treated as non-compliance with the application.

B) Sequence of Documents to be attached for the purpose of Company registration

  • Covering Letter (Format closed)
  • Company Registration Fee and Payment Options
  • Print out of the Online Company Registration Form
  • Agreement between BEE & User of Label on Rs.100 Non Judicial Stamp Paper
  • Trade Marks certificate (In the Name of the User of Label)
  • SSI certificate (If Small Scale Industry and applying for first time)
  • Quality Management System Certificate
  • Authorized Signatory Letter
  • BIS License

C) Sequence of Documents to be attached for the purpose of Model registeration

  • Covering Letter (Format closed)
  • Payment Options
  • Print out of the Online Application form (properly signed and stamped with company seal)
  • Print out of the Mandatory Form and its Annexure form (For mandatory products only)
  • Test Report (properly signed and stamped with company seal)
  • Sample label (Printed Waterproof Adhesive or Metallic as applicable)

Who can issue the Bureau of Energy Efficiency License?

BEE BEE

The Government of India set up Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). on 1st March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001.

Fill-up the online Application Form. Compile the necessary information and documents and upload the same to BEE portal. Make the online payment of model registration fee to BEE. Submit the hard copy of application with all enclosures duly signed by Authorized Signatory along with Specimen of BEE Label, as applicable.

To register for BEE Label, the company must register and sign an agreement with BEE and comply with clause 2(n) of section 13 of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. The agreement is valid for three years or as stipulated by BEE.
