What is PESO License?

The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO), formerly known as the Department of Explosives, since its inception on 05/09/1898, has been serving the nation as a nodal agency for regulating safety of hazardous substances such as explosives, compressed gas, and petroleum. Petroleum And Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) is the department formed by the Government of India to control and administer the usage of explosives, petrol stations in India. The agency issues licenses for Operation of Petrol Stations under Form XIV, Licenses to operate Petroleum Product Transportation vehicles, Licenses for Refineries, Petrochemical Complexes, etc. The Department is headed by the Chief Controller of Explosives and is headquartered at Nagpur in the State of Maharashtra in India.

Document Required for PESO License

  • Applicants name and full address with telephone no. and E-mail.
  • Whether the applicant has manufactured any unfired pressure vessel, vapouriser or fittings thereof
  • Specifications of Code proposed to be adopted for the manufacture of the vessels/vapouriser/fittings.
  • Organisational set-up with specific reference to qualifications and experience of the personnel engaged in the manufacture of vessels/vapouriser/fittings.
  • Organisational set-up of the inspecting personnel engaged by the applicant.
  • Process of manufacture of vessels/vapourizer/fittings, beginning with raw material and ending with the finished vessels/vapouriser/fittings.
  • Quality control checks or tests carried out at each stage of manufacture of vessels/ vapouriser/fittings.
  • Details of the equipment installed for chemical analysis and mechanical tests
  • Details of templates or gauges provided to check or test.
  • Steps taken to check the accuracy of testing and checking equipment and frequency of such checking.
  • Equipments available for carrying out non-destructive examination such as radiography, gamma ray, ultrasonic tests, other quality and performance tests.
  • List of machinery provided for manufacturing vessels/vapouriser/fittings.
  • Name and address of the independent inspecting authority.
  • Records and certificate of tests
  • Whether the fabrication shop is certified under ISO or equivalent certification, (if so, documentary evidence thereof to be attached).
  • List of relevant codes, specifications and technical literature available
