What is WPC ETA License?

The Wireless Planning & Coordination Wing (WPC) is a Wing of the Department of Telecommunications coming under the Ministry of Communications of the Government of India. The department is responsible for issuing amateur radio licenses, allotting the frequency spectrum, and monitoring the frequency spectrum

If the product is not Type Approved, then it is required to inform WPC and obtain Type Approval from WPC. Import License is required from WPC to import any equipment, other than Broadcasting Receiver and TVRO System.

WPC follows the online application process (+hard copy after applying) for ETA. If the item you want to obtain ETA is in the equipment list, you can proceed with STEP 2, otherwise, you have to get the item added to the equipment list on the WPC website.

Why this License is Required?

Equipment Type Approval (ETA) is required to promote the import of wireless devices in India, this approval shall be obtained by the WPC department. If a product isn’t certified by WPC and functions in the de-licensed frequency band then they must obtain an ETA certificate.

Document Required for WPC ETA License

  • Importer KYC Documents (GST Certificate, IEC Certificate, PAN Card and other documents based on company type etc.). – From Importer.
  • Technical literature/specification of the equipment regarding the band of frequency, power etc. – From Manufacturer.
  • Manufacturer authorization letter to Importer as Authorized Indian Representative/Agent - Format Provided.
  • Filled Application Form – Format Provided.
  • Radio Frequency Test report of each model (Test report should cover all requirements as per last page and notification) – From Manufacturer

Documents Checklist for Import Permission from WPC

  • Duly filled application form Print-out of online application filed for import license. (We will provide).
  • Copy of Signed Purchase order from the applicant to foreign supplier.
  • Copy of signed Invoice from the supplier to the applicant.
  • literature/specification of the equipment regarding the band of frequency, power etc should be furnished and should match with decision letter. – From Manufacturer.
  • Copy of ETA of the wireless equipment proposed for import, which are operating 2.4GHz/5GHz bands.
